*This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these youth, pay for school, debts, or save for a home
even if you serve for just one year. Many Family Teacher Practitioners have made this a very worthwhile career serving for
many years and at the same time have raised wonderful children of their own. Couples who desire a family larger than two
children after serving in one of our homes may have additional options available to them with our company. Youth Quest has
been in operation for eight years and will continue to grow for many years. Some options include residential treatment with
home ownership, therapeutic foster care (TFT Providers), and other programs which will need strong and capable individuals.

"We began our year as Family Teachers in July of 2007 and completed our year in July of 2008. During that time we were
able to serve 7 youth who deeply impacted our lives. They each came with their own set of challenges and strengths and
it was an amazing joy to be able to see each of them change within the program. We learned how important it is for youth
to have boundaries and choices within those boundaries. The lessons we learned during our 12 months was priceless,
and has not only changed us to be better parents to our own children, but better people overall. Our marriage is stronger
and better than ever because of the many skills we learned as Family Teachers. We have kept in touch with several of
our youth and can't wait to continue to follow them as they grow and make choices. We appreciated our staff so much, we
could not have been successful without them! They became not only our friends, but our family. As we begin a new
chapter in our lives in graduate psychology school, we hope that one day we can return to beautiful North Carolina and
continue a future with this great company!"

"As we each go through life’s journeys there are specific times and experiences that define and make us better than we
were. Brigham and I started one of these journeys as family teachers at the Quest in July of 2006 through July of 2007.
During this year we were able to serve 8 youth. We learned many different lessons as we worked through the Teaching
Family Model. With each client being a separate person and set of challenges you learned which methods worked the
best with each person. It was amazing to see how being in a family environment really effected the clients, even if they
may not have acknowledged it out loud each one respected and wanted to be a part of that family. One of the greatest
parts of our experience as Family teachers was when the clients progressed and could use the skills that we were
teaching them. You could see them growing and changing. Our lives as a family and with the clients as part of that family
grew and changed as well. Brig and I learned to rely on each other and to communicate in more effective ways to each
other, our children and the clients. The Teaching Family Model has taught us wonderful techniques that will help us to be
much better parents to our children and in the community. Throughout our year there were many times we knew that we
were being refined and stretched but as we served these young men our capacity to love grew more than we could
imagine. We went through times of great joy and great sadness when the clients would see their potential and when they
made poor choices which took them backwards instead of forward. We would not have been able this work without the
love a support of those we worked with. So thanks to Emily, Traci, Carmen, Ream, The Schofield's and especially our
consultant Ms. Adia! We love you all and wish you the best especially all the young men that we worked with we wish you
the best wherever you may be."

"We served as the family teaching couple at “The Quest” facility located in southwest Durham, NC from July 2003-July
2006. After leaving the group home, we were asked to write a paragraph to summarize the 3 years we lived in the group
home. We drafted and re-drafted many times a “formal” paragraph fit for all audiences to read about our experience.
This experience had so many different components to it that writing a few short sentences could not justly sum it up, nor
cover all the feelings and emotions involved. We would like instead to write a short message to the more than 15 youth
that lived with us during those years. You all came to live with us for different reasons and the lengths of your stays
varied, but while living with us we hope you gained a few insights that may possibly help you through your years to come.
We enjoyed laughing with you, playing games with you, dancing in the living room, singing karaoke, spending spring
break at the beach, learning to do handstands and flips, swimming together, playing basketball, eating good (and
sometimes not so good) food with you and celebrating your accomplishments. Some days were not so great, but that
didn’t stop us nor did it stop you from working hard to overcome many of the struggles that you came with. By helping you
learn to use one more life skill, control your emotion and make rational decisions when all you wanted to do was forget
reason altogether, we formed a bond. You all amazed us with the growth and achievements that we witnessed you
make, and that you continue to report making in your lives now. Thanks so much for letting us into your lives. We wish
you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Many of you already keep in touch, but here is our e-mail for those we
haven’t heard from in awhile and hope to hear from soon. lantzfamily@gmail.com We will always hold the memories of
this experience and all of you dear to us. Best Wishes, the Lantz Family."

"We served as family teachers in The Hive, in Chapel Hill, for one year and we look back on it as a remarkable
experience. We experienced the lows that come through the frustrations in the field when a young person chooses not to
utilize the opportunities placed before them, and we have experienced the ultimate highs of watching a young person
choose life altering paths that lead to success. We have found that there is no greater reward or feeling than knowing we
were a part of that child’s success. Our experiences as family teachers brought our own natural family closer together,
and made our family unit stronger from the experience. We also now have several young people we have worked with as
honorary members of our family. Through our experiences of the job, we built a broad network of contacts with social
workers, therapists, psychiatrist, and other professionals in the field. Danny now works as a case manager in the field of
mental health, helping young clients and their families identify services and agencies to meet their mental health needs.
We both serve as therapeutic foster parents, continuing our relationship with Youth Quest and furthering our desire to
help a young person affect change in their life. We have found the Chapel Hill and Durham area a positive place to live
and raise our children, and have stayed in the area to attend school at UNC."

"We came to North Carolina in May of 2002 to join the Youth Quest team in its early phases. Emily and Kelly had just
purchased the home on Landerwood Lane and were just finishing the beautiful renovations. We were privileged to be
the first couple to inhabit “The Hive” as Teaching Family Practitioners! During our two year stay at The Hive, we had the
opportunity to serve a total of fifteen youth. We are currently serving as Therapeutic Foster Parents for a young man who
was with us in the group home. It has been very rewarding to watch these youth grow and make positive choices which
vastly improve their quality of life. These experiences have given us an amazing opportunity to work together as a couple
to provide for the extraordinary needs of the youth whom we are serving. We have also learned a great deal about
patience, mutual respect and tolerance, along with many other invaluable attributes and life skills. Working directly with
youth is at times very difficult, and has extensively tested our patience and emotional stamina, but it is an experience that
we would not trade for anything!"

"Kelly and I originally served as Family Teachers for another agency. Shortly after coming to North Carolina, Youth Quest
was founded with just one home where we tried to implement our dream of offering life changing high quality services.
Looking back 8 years later, if this opportunity to work, live and teach children in this capacity were to be presented, we'd
do it again. After five years and twenty five youth served as Family Teacher Practitioners, we've become better partners
and parents today. We gained a depth of appreciation for our roles as parents and the skills we learned using the
Teaching Family model have given, and will continue to give our natural children many life advantages. We've come to
appreciate agency and accountability and the wonderful opportunity these youth have to choose for themselves to use
this program to better their lives. The beauty is that it's up to them, but sometimes for the first time in their lives, they are
provided this life changing opportunity. Those men and women who've chosen this life changing career have the
opportunity to gain skills that will enhance the strength of their marriage, as well as increase the joy and satisfaction of
raising their own children. We’re thankful that these couples carry on this worthwhile service to give these youth this
option to completely change the direction of their lives. The bottom line is that we love our the youth we served; even the
ones that were perhaps the most challenging youth because of what they all taught us. We are thankful to have been
able to serve them. Some youth we served keep in contact with us and we're able to see their lives be successful and
receive that highly coveted "thank you". There are some youth we've lost touch with who we have no idea the influence we
may have had on these youth months and years into their future, but with this unique role, the opportunity for us to
influence their lives for good is immeasurable."

"One of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had was being a Teaching-Parent. I had the opportunity to raise
my own children in an extended family atmosphere and help instill values and teach skills using a positive,
structured program. The work was professional, challenging, and fun. I see the results of my efforts as children
who lived with our family return to visit us, sometimes with children of their own. My own daughters who spent their
formative years in the group home were positively impacted. They exhibit a concern for others, a sense of
responsibility and fairness beyond their years and most importantly are accepting other others."
